Beauty pure and simple. Soft & silky. Indulge your senses with this exclusive blend of smoothing Tahitian vanilla bean oils to instantly nourish and moisturize, while silk amino proteins strengthen and seal your hair's cuticles, revitalizing your hair, creating silky, smooth shiny hair. Sulfate free. Organic vanilla bean oils.

Ingredients: Dl Water (Aqua), Cetyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Jojoba Oil, Panthenol, Silk Amino Complex, Organic Vanilla Bean Oil, Shea Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.

Review: I will start with the pros. It smells amazing! If I could eat it, I would. The price is Wonderful!! (easy on the pockets) and it makes a wonderful refresher in my spray bottle. Now the cons (dun-dun-dun.) I really dislike how they name their products "organix" when it's not "organic" and some of their ingredients, from their multiple products, contain not so good stuff for curlies. Even this has some "caution" ingredients, so please read the back of the bottles. I must also add that, I wouldn't detangle with it. I like to detangle with conditioner, but this soaks right into N's hair, and is not slippery enough to comb though. Overall it's decent, ONLY because of how I am using it. For simple a refresher, or quick rinse out conditioner, this is a good product to use. Nothing more, nothing less.

fyi: I prefer their coconut milk conditioner over this one.

If you are interested in trying products from the Organix brand. CVS is currently having a B.O.G.O (buy1get1) sale on this product line.

Have you tried a product from Organix? What are your thoughts on it?

Protective Style Challenge: Mini Twists (weeks 1-3)

For our Protective Style Challenge we decided to do ....mini twists!
Yes, mini twists! If you ask some of my facebook friends, they will tell you how much
I dreaded doing this style. It's a beautiful style, but I did not want to sit for hours, and hours, and I didn't even want to think about the take down process. Well, I caved in, and surprisingly it wasn't too bad after all!

(fyi: the last photo is from week 2)
Here are some close up pictures.

This style took 3-4 hours we only had a few breaks. I started her hair in the back, I didn't part it, just sectioned it with my fingers. I washed her hair 2 days before styling and banded it. I used Eco Styler Gel mixed with Bee Mine Curly Butter for hold. For some reason I really like mixing the two products. The Eco Styler alone sometimes leaves a white flaky residue but has a really good hold.

But on the down side, the two products combined makes N's hair wet, and then once the twists dries it creates this kinda-cute-weird-crinkly-thingy <--ignore all of that...But it did create this curly look. Overall N said "Mommy, this is my favorite hairstyle!" Yes, her favorite, so you guessed it, we will be seeing more of this style lol.

Here is a tutorial video on how to do Mini Twists, I pretty much followed her directions.

Have you ever tried mini twists? If so, how was your experience?

Phalate-free
Sulfate-free
Mineral oil-free
No artificial colors or fragrances

This is my daughter N's debut at being a Youtube Vlogger. She is a pretty shy kid (until you get to know her.) So she has really stepped out of her shell. She really likes Cara B and wanted to do her own review. Click below to see N in action!

Now here is Mommies review lol

Shampoo:

Ingredients: Deionized water; natural coconut oil, cornstarch and sugar soap blend (decyl glucoside); natural chamomile fragrance blend; vegetable glycerin; sugar (glucose); vitamin E; aloe vera barbadensis leaf juice; citric acid; guar gum (natural thickener); car amel; glucose oxidase & lactoperoxidase (natural preservative)

Review: I love the scent it's like a vanilla-sweet scent, which is a big plus! It's very light, and tear-free which is another plus! And we used 2 quarter sized amounts, not too bad, third plus lol! I give this shampoo 3 out of 3 stars lol, perfect, gentle and not stripping, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Body Lotion:

Ingredients: Deionized water; coconut oil (capric triglyceride); shea butter; sunflower seed oil; cocoa butter (stearic acid); jojoba oil; natural emulsifying wax (cetearyl alcohol); natural emulsifier (glyceryl stearate); sugar (glucose); natural chamomile fragrance blend; xanthan gum (natural thickener); aloe vera barbadensis leaf juice; vitamin E; caramel; potassium sorbate; glucose oxidase & lactoperoxidase (natural preservative)

Review: Like N said in the video, she uses it daily and I would recommend this for those who may have sensitive skin. The lotion is very light and gentle, and with this cold drying weather, N's skin has a nice shimmer. N likes to lick her lips, which causes a thin dry ring around her mouth. I rubbed this on her face for 2 days, and it was gone!

Hair Mist:

Ingredients: Deionized water; vegetable glycerin; coconut oil (capric triglyceride); sweet almond oil; jojoba oil; sugar (glucose); natural chamomile fragrance blend; aloe vera barbadensis leaf juice; vitamin E; potassium sorbate; glucose oxidase & lactoperoxidase (natural preservative); citric acid

Review: This is the perfect spray for styles like braids, twists, or something that you want to keep moisturized, without messing up the style. It leaves a nice shine, that soaks into your hair. And hours later it does not feel sticky. It's very light, so I will just use it only as a refresher.

Leave-In Conditioner:

Ingredients: Deionized water; natural emulsifying wax (cetearyl alcohol); shea butter; jojoba oil; coconut oil (capric triglyceride); vegetable glycerin; natural emulsifier (cetearyl alcohol and cetearyl glucoside); natural chamomile fragrance blend; cocoa butter (stearic acid); sugar (glucose); xanthan gum (natural thickener); natural emulsifier (glyceryl stearate); aloe barbadensis leaf juice; vitamin E; caramel; potassium sorbate; glucose oxidase & lactoperoxidase (natural preservative)

Review: I used this as a daily moisturizer, I would go through this bottle too quickly, if I used it as a conditioner. So I have been moisturizing N's twists (style coming soon) daily, and it's absolutely wonderful. Silly N got the lotion, and this bottle, mixed up, and put the leave-in conditioner all over her body :/ Now my first thought was "uh-oh, she is going to break out or become itchy" ......But nope, her skin smelled and felt good, and she had zero complaints. Again, it's very light, so if you don't like thick or oily creams, then this is right up your alley.

Overall: I really like their products, it has such a nice light scent perfect for little babies, and it's a much safer and healthier product than Johnson & Johnson. I wish I knew about their product line when my kids were smaller.  I highly recommend this to all of the small babies/kids out there. The best part, is that it will be sold in Target & CVS (in February)!! Yes, convenient for all! You can also order their products here https://www.mycarab.com.

Cornbraid Ponytail

After winter break, I decided that N and I, needed a nice break. I create this braided ponytail and each school day, I switched up the style to give it more than one look.

On Monday I wrapped the hair into a bun.

On Tuesday I left the braids free in the ponytail.

On Wednesday, I wrapped the hair around to create the "I Dream Of Jeannie" look.

On Thursday, I kept Wednesday's look and added a two strand twist.

On Friday, I made a regular braid.

So that's a total of 5 different hairstyles from the braided ponytail, now who says braids are versatile?? LOL

Approx Time: 1 hour

Quick Cornbraid Style

I had exactly one hour until N's bedtime, so I quickly did this cornbraid style. It took exactly one hour and 14 mins, so she wasnt too late for bed. I did the front section of hair in side braids. Next, I did the back of her hair in two (2) rows of cornbraids. I added the beads in the morning.

The bottom layer of cornbraids is longer than the middle section.

Cute & Simple!

Products Used:
 Eco Styler Gel
Cara B Moisturizing Hair Mist (sprayed in the morning.) REVIEW SOON

This style lasted 2 weeks.

Note: We are getting ready for our protective style challenge, so this style is a great style idea for those participating.

SpotLight- Naomi

Naomi O. Osibajo is an amazing young entertainer born to the world on April 29th, 2008. Naomi was born to a Nigerian father and a Russian/Japanese mother. Naomi loves to model and act. She loves the whole idea of entertaining people and making them feel better. Naomi has been modeling since she was very young and she is currently joining the acting business. Naomi has done many things in the modeling business;she has been on magazines, newspapers, websites, and blogs.Naomi isn't just a model, but she has a beautiful personality and it makes the people around her feel happy. She is compassionate and kind, also she is very well behaved for someone her age which helps her during casting calls. Naomi is a very remarkable young girl and she will transform into a very prosperous woman.

Naomi has very nice curly hair, some may say curly and some fluffy. Naomi hair is what describes her and along with her eyes and smile it captures people's attention. Naomi's hair is very soft and we try to recreate numerous styles. This is very difficult because we don't want to hurt her while we do it. We cover these flaws by doing a lot of hairstyles that require big puffs and Afros. Naomi also uses hair product like mixed chics, curlfomers, and others. Naomi loves her hair and everyone loves it too, but the best part about it is the volume in her hair. We like to braid her hair a night before so that in the morning we could just take out the braids and instant curls.

Guest Blogger Article: Part II

(Click here to read part one of the article)
(continued...)

Tip 4. Moisturize use an oil moisturizer or lotion is not greasy and does not contain alcohol. A light coat of moisturizer will serve as a protector against the heat from the blow dryer. Do not use grease; it is not absorbed into the hair. You can blow-dry the hair on a low temperature or if you prefer styling the hair first and placing under hooded dryer that is fine as well.

Tip 5. If you choose to straighten or curl your child's use the lowest setting possible, you do not want to burn the hair nor the child. Part into 4 sections as before and work your way around the head from back to front. Start at the back part off some of the hair and flat iron from root to ends. Make sure you cover all parts of the hair with the flat irons, its not a good idea to go back over hair that was already been straighten. Repeat until your have straighten the whole head.

Tip 6: Styling the hair can be the hardest part. Apply a small gel for smooth ponytails. DO NOT USE RUBBER BANDS. I cannot stress enough rubber pulls the hair and almost every time will come off with some hair round it. Try elastic ponytail holders they can so much safer and come in many different colors.

Just have fun with it and be creative with your parts and styles one way to make the process easier, play salon with her. Have her make an appointment and treat her as paying customer, my girls love this and relax the atmosphere little more.

Introducing Guest Blogger: Shasta

I wanted to start this new year, with a hair care article from our guest blogger Shasta. Shasta is the Mother of two cute girls. Pebbles age 10 and Tinkerbell age 5. She is currently studying Media Technology, majoring in Broadcasting.
Check out her hairstyles below.

Hair Care Tips for kids with Ethnic Hair.
When it comes to your child you want nothing but the best from the top of their heads down to their toes and everything in between. However, in today's world you may not have the money to take your child to a professionally on a regular basic.  Here are my tips, as a licensed Cosmetologist and mother of two girls, on how to care for Ethnic Kid's hair.

Ethnic hair comes in all types and textures but have should be cared for the same way.
Tip 1. Weekly shampoos with an alcohol free shampoo, its first line of defense is caring for any kind of hair. Educate yourself. Read the labels and ingredients in the shampoos, know what you are using. Alcohol is very damaging to the hair and can cause unnecessary dryness and breakage. The cheaper the shampoo is the more likely its made of mostly water and alcohol.

Tip 2. Condition, use a Conditioner that’s not heavy and doesn't weigh the hair down, Leave in conditioners are great as long as it isn't greasy and of course alcohol free as well. When applying the Conditioner make sure you cover every strand form root to ends and even scalp. If it is not a Leave in, just let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes and rinse with warm water. Carol's Daughter makes a great line of hair care products for all types of kid's hair, made naturally with no Alcohol.

Tip 3.Clipping the dead-ends should also be preformed every 6 to 8 weeks but only by a professional. You always want to start with a clean oil free head. If your baby is tender headed or the hair gets tangled easily spray a light mist of detangler before you start the cut comb out. Use a wide toothcomb. It will save you both the tears. Part the hair in four sections; it’s easier to do if you tackle a section a time. Starting at the back right section comb the ends first while holding the middle of the section, if it still tangled can spray more detangler as need. Comb the whole section from root to end without kinks or knots. Repeat until you have combed out all four sections.

-You do a wonderful job, your daughters hair looks absolutely luscious! I cant wait to see more styles, and future articles from you.

REPOST: Curlformers Review + Jan Hair Carnival & Giveaway

Curlformers are revolutionary because the curls are formed inside the Curlformers, so they do the work for you! Quick and easy to apply yourself or with the help of a friend, Curlformers are a great fun way to create perfect curls and add volume and texture to your hair without causing heat damage!

.

Thanks to my friends over at Curlformers, I have the wonderful opportunity to review Curlformers! I had heard so many great reviews on them, so I had to give it a try, and I'm glad I did! When I first seen these rollers, I thought it looked super silly it kind of reminded me of Medusa LOL my mind wanders sometimes.

But, once I seen the results on a few youtube videos, I knew I wanted to try it! It took awhile for me getting use to pulling the hair down the roller. But I got the hang of it after a few times of accidentally pulling N's hair..OUCH! But she was a trooper and even helped by sliding the rollers on, and handing it to me. Overall I loved the results and will definitely use this again!

Here is the instruction video that showed me how to use the Curlformers

I also loved this instructional video as well

Instructions:

1.) I washed N's hair with our regular routine.

2.) Then I parted her wet hair from ear to ear.

3.) I started in the back section, and added Motions Wrapping Lotion to the back section.

4.) I began taking a 1/2 inch section of hair and put on the Curlformer.

5.) I continued until I completed the entire back section.

6.) I re-wet the top section, by adding a little water with conditioner mix.

7.) Then, I applied the wrapping lotion, and smoothed her hair into a ponytail.

8.) I added Curlformers to the ponytail, and left the rollers in overnight.

9.) In the morning, I took out the Curlformers and sprayed some Bee Mine Juicy Spritz.

fyi: separate the curls for a more fuller look.

I brought this flower headband at our local Walmart.

Total Time: Approx 45 mins (not including washing)
Products Used:
Motions Foam Wrapping Lotion
