5 year old styling hair!

Check out these videos of a 5 year old braiding!!
Amazing, isnt it! Remember, to teach your little one to care for their own hair.

Thanks LaShauna for allowing me to share!

N's Hair Growth

I recently shared this picture with our facebook family. Look at N's hair growth from last year 12-13-10 (the top 2 pictures.) Now look at her growth as of 12-12-11 (photos at the bottom.) Before her hair was above her elbow, now it's a little past (with braids.)

A few people have already asked me, what did I do? or what products are we using? The answer to these questions are in the tabs above. It can be found in N's hair care routine, and hair care tips. But the main key for us is patience, protective styles, moisture, and no dry detangling (unless her hair is stretched). These steps have helped us tremendously!  Since the New Year is right around the corner, we set some hair goals for the upcoming year.

1.) Moisturize daily. (We've been pretty good on this one.)

2.) Always sleep with her sleeping cap. (We have our forgetful moments.)

3.) Reach hip length hair. (Hard one, but we will keep our fingers-crossed.)

What is your 2012 hair care goal?

From My Family To Yours, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Holiday Hairstyles

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

I hope everyone is finished wrapping gifts! (FYI: I haven't even started lol) I keep forgetting to purchase tape. Anywho, I wanted to share our Holiday Hairstyle. N LOVES it!!! I do too!! Mostly because it only took 20 minutes to complete! Plus our neighbor came over just to take a picture of N's hair to share with her family. <--how cool is that! Can you tell what design is in her hair??

Do you see the tree!!

This style is pretty simple.

1.) I parted the shape of a tree in the middle of her hair.

2.) I slid beads in the center of the tree design. Then I placed all of the hair into a bow.

3.) I created small cornbraids around the tree.

4.) Next, I added two (two- strand twists) ponytails in the front of her hair. I placed a few beads on the ends for decoration.

The yellow bead is the star lol

Products Used:
Darcy's Botanical Shea Butter Moisturizer
Shea Butter Mix
Rubberbands
Beads
Eco Styler Gel
Note: Her hair was freshly washed the previous day. We used Blended Beauty Herbal Reconditioner, Bee Mine Shampoo, and we did a hot oil treatment, prior to wash.

MTV Casting Call

I wanted to share this information for all of the Women/Teens who are readers of KandyLand!

Are you ready for the "Big Chop?"

Have you ever considered how much fun it could be for you or someone you know to appear on a reality show about going natural? MTV’s True Life is looking for such a person, so lower your reality TV guard just a bit and think about it!

Is your hair your obsession? How are you struggling with your hair? Do you feel natural hair would let you embrace your true self, and you want to go for the “big chop?” Why now? What has held you back up to this moment?

We would like to follow someone who is ready to do the “big chop” and follow them on their journey as they transition into their natural hair.

If you appear to be between the ages of 15 -28 and would like us to document your transition to natural hair, email us at casting@Lintonmedia.com and tell us about your story. Please include your name, location, phone number and recent photos of yourself.

Determining Hair Types

3c, 4a, 4b, 2c, 3b.....WHAT DO THESE LETTERS MEAN!!!  (hahaha) Well, I'll tell you, the letters help determine your curl/hair type. Take a look below for images to help you. Also don't be alarmed if you have more than one, N has 3! Knowing your curl type may help you figure out products that cater to your hair.

Here is a link to help if you are still unsure. http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types

So what curl type are you? and your little one?

25 Minutes Or Less Styles: Afro Puffs

Okay this isn't an afro puff, but it's the closest we can get without crazy tangles. So technically it's a braidout and put into 2 ponytails lol.

I parted her hair that night, and then I wet, moisturized, and sealed, her hair into 3 braids on each side. In the morning, I added more of our homemade sealant (click for instructions on how to make it.) Then smoothed her hair in the sections. I unraveled the braids, and voila! We have a quick nice braidout puffs lol.

She looks happy with her puffs lol

Kandy's (?) Time

Do you deep condition your hair, or your child's hair? If so, how often?

Two Layered Cornbraids With Twists

As I was going through our hair care photo album. I stumbled upon this style, I totally forgot to show everyone. I did this style during the summer. I've been doing low maintenance styles to promote growth. So nothing too fancy lol. But here it is, two (2) rows of cornbraids and twists coming out of the top section.

Blended Beauty: Product Review

Blended Beauty Jelly Cream

A soft hold moisturizing gel lotion that defines and conditions curls, while nourishing the scalp and hair. Smooth and define each curl with natural conditioners. Absolutely no plastics! Only silky and bouncy curls...naturally! Jelly Cream has twice as much hold as the Down & Out creams.

Ingredients: Aloe and Chamomile Water, Shea Butter, Vegetable Glycerin, Rice Bran Oil, Capryl Isostearate, Natural Conditioner, Soy Lecithin, Guar Gum, Natural Preservative Optiphin, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Silk Powder.

Review: I really really like Blended Beauty! I use the Happy Nappy Styles along with the Jelly Cream on N's braidouts. Her braidout lasted a little bit longer than usual. But I was REALLY impressed by how well it worked on my son's hair. I never documented his hair journey.Well, because now it's finally starting to grow in. He was born with a head full of hair, but when he was around 3 months it started to fall out :( Since then, it has been growing back VERY slowly, and has completely changed texture. He went from straight hair, to curly/frizzy hair. But Happy Nappy Styles along with he Jelly Cream has helped to give his frizz a really nice curl definition. I'll let these pictures show you the difference...

-This is a picture of his hair without products-

These pictures below is his hair with Blended Beauty products.

Look at his curls! I use a very small amount of product to get his curls defined.

Blended Beauty Happy Nappy Styles

A rich and moisturizing styling cream for kinky curls and dreads, or highly textured hair. Style and define your curls or twist locs, while naturally hydrating. Perfect for finger twisting curls! Create defined curls, with maximum moisture and softness. Dries touchably soft and satiny, not sticky or greasy.

Ingredients: Aloe and Chamomile Water, Rice Bran Oil, Shea Butter, Natural Conditioner, Polysorbate 20, Vegetable Glycerin, Capryl Isostearate, Soy Lecithin,Guar Gum, Natural Preservative Optiphin, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Silk Powder.

Consistency: Thick & Creamy

Review: I highly recommend this for twists/braidouts and finger curls. It has a nice hold, but doesn't leave a stiff felling. It really helps to create a natural braidout look. N's hair is still soft, and I love the vanilla smell. Overall Blended Beauty is the bomb-diggity (corny but it's how I'm felling!) I'm dying to try their complete line!

IngredientsChamomile Water, Rice Bran Oil, Natural Conditioner, Natural Preservative Optiphin, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Marshmallow Root, Aloe Leaf , Seaweed, Shave grass (Horse Tail), Corn Protein, Wheat Protein, Soy Protein, Silk Powder.

Review:
WOW WOW WOW!! Okay ya! Where do I begin...I received this product from our friend at Blended Beauty and I have been using it non-stop since trying it. The Herbal Reconditioner is a deep conditioning treatment, and is the perfect detangler. I followed the instructions on the jar, I washed her hair. Then I applied this in sections all over her hair. Next, I put on a shower cap and let it sit for 20 minutes. Once the time was up, I started finger detangling and then combed using my wide tooth. Her tangles literally separated from one another, like magic...seriously...I think they put some special magical potion in their products haha. At first, I thought maybe this week she didn't have alot of tangles, so that's why it worked so well. But nope, that's not it! I used this for 4 weeks straight, and it never failed to amaze me. I'm finally starting to find the perfect products for N's hair, and Blended Beauty's Herbal Reconditioner is on the top of our growing list. I plan on ordering their complete line, and if you want to save -10% Off- your purchase use the code "curly" at checkout, I know I will! Thanks Blended Beauty!
