Repost: Swimming & Hair Care

The Sun is out, and summer is on it's way! Of course, the kids want to cool off in the water.
Here are some tips on how to protect your little one's hair while swimming.

Before Swimming:

-Apply a leave in conditioner to the hair. This will add a protective barrier against chlorine/salt.

- Purchase a swimming cap, this will also protect the hair.

-Wet your hair with clean water prior to going into the pool, this will help to stop your hair from absorbing chlorine.

After Swimming:

This is the most important step
-Make sure to immediately wash your hair with a sulfate shampoo to remove the chlorine and apply a conditioner.

Can you please suggest a sulfate shampoo? Thanks,
Jackie

Sure,
Garnier Frutis, Pantene, Herbal Essences, Dove and etc. If you are unsure just look at the ingredients on the back and see if it says *Sodium Laureth or Laurel Sulfate* This will take away the bad chlorine, and even the good things we need. So it's best to use a *Sulfate-Free* shampoo for regular washing.

Interesting that we should use a sulfate shampoo to remove the chlorine. I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing!

I never really thoughts of a swimming routine for hair. This was nice and simple. Something I can do. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't know to use sulfate shampoo either. Another good thing to do is mix baking soda and water and spray it on after swimming then rinse it out after a few minutes...it gets the chlorine out and isn't drying.

Once a week make sure to deep condition the hair, and do a pre-poo oil treatment so that her hair wont be so drying.
