I washed, deep conditioned, and applied the Smoothie and Style Milk to N's hair. I put her hair into 4 braids, and sent her to bed with her satin scarf. In the morning, I took out her braids, I noticed the curl definition right away. I pulled the top half into a ponytail and added a headband.
Take a look at the bottom of her hair, I must say, the curls are gorgeous. This picture was taken after running and playing at the park, and her curls still looked great!
Overall, I was pleased with the braid out, and the ingredients are perfect! But, these products didn't moisturize her hair the way I thought it would. There wasn't extra shine, if you take a look at the pictures her hair appears dull/dry. But to solve that, I added a oil/sealant on top of the Shea Mositure Milk. They do carry a shine mist, but my local Walgreens did not have it. I will keep you updated, on these products.
UPDATE: Well it's almost been a year, since writing this review. Since then, I purchased the Shea Moisture Milk and Shampoo again. I wasn't too fond of the Deep Conditiong Mask, so I will not repurchase it. But I love the Milk and Shampoo, and also I got my hands on the Shine Mist, which I also love! I really hope Walgreens has another BOGO sale, if so, I'll be right there, ready and equipped to purchase in bulk haha! But at my most recent shopping trip to Walmart, Shea Moisture was in the aisle! I can't believe it! and you guessed it, I brought some more bottles lol.

Her braid out looks great! The dull/dry look is my number one complaint with Shea Moisture products. The deep treatment masque didn't work well with us either!
Thanks for the review! I've got to try out these products soon!

I totally agree, and I'm glad that I'm not alone. I have used the deep conditioning treatment twice and it isn't really doing anything to her hair. I will try it once more, and then its OUT! I like to give all the products I review, the 3 strikes rule, and after this 3rd time I will be back to post an update.
but the curl & style milk did give her a nice braidout, so I will most likely keep that one.
I love Shea Moisture products! The shampoo and conditioner makes the hair feel so light and fluffy! IT is indeed a product all that all the ladiea inthe house use
Great review...I've been working on a SheaMoisture review too, I swear we are each others shadows!
I need help with my daughter's type 4 hair. It gets VERY kinky. I detangle it, and the next morning it is tangled again. Any tips on products or styling. She normally wears beards with beads, but I see her edges thinning. I don't do it, my cousin does. I just don't want her teased because of her hair.
Hello Amanda,
Thanks for writing me!
After you detangle, do you put her hair in twists? or braids, to stop it from getting tangled as she sleeps? After I detangle, I put N's hair in a few regular braids at night and this helps to keep it from getting knotty again.
Sometimes when wearing braids alot, and it's tight, it can put stress on the hairline causing thinning edges. I would suggest giving braids a break for awhile and try to do styles pigtails or something that doesn't pull on her edges. Also add a moistuizer to your haircare regimen and a light natural oil like coconut, or olive oil. Put the oil on top of the moisturizer, and focus the oils on her edges and ends of her hair.
When purchasing products avoid Mineral Oil, Petroleum, Sulfates. These ingredients aren't good for curly hair, especially a 4 hair type. Look for organic/natural products to shampoo and condition with. Walmart carries a line called: Organix. It is priced pretty reasonable ($4-$5) they carry the shampoo, conditioner and etc. Try these products!
And yes, I agree kids are very cruel and will tease a child for just about anything! Keep researching and trying new products and hopefully this will fix her problem. I hope this info helps.
Okay thanks, would a moisturizer be consider hair milk? I also purchased the Curls Lavish Curls Moisturizer. i put her hair in twists tonight, so hopefully the twist out with be cute for school tomorrow. Her hair is uneven in some parts, would you recommend cutting it. Sorry for all the questions, i just want her hair to be properly cared for.
Yes, some companies consider hair milk their moisturizer. It's up to you, if you want to cut it to make it even. I recommend cutting if she has split ends. but if her hair is noticeably uneven I would cut it. Keep me updated on her twist out and keep the questions coming, that's what Im here for :)
Thanks for reviewing this product. I got similar results. I used the hair milk alone and got a better shine. My experience is the smoothie butter produced the dull film.
I wish the results were better, because I do like the price! Organic products typically costs alot, so for this to be sold at Walgreens, and is reasonable, I really wanted it to do "magic" on her hair. But as you can see her hair was dull, and dry looking, which is unusual. I'm still using these products, there is a little left (I won't let it go to waste) but I will not repurchase.
This review helped me switch to Shea Moisture, their products work well for both my daughter and I and we have very different hair types, 4c and 3c
Hello Kandy, i know this is late comment but i wanted to share my experiences with the shea moisture products. i dont have the curl and style milk or the curl enhancing smoothie but i have tried them before in my 14 month old daughter's 3c hair. it works wonders! I use the raw shea butter line in my relaxed 4a hair. I found that, after researching (and reading the label), the deep treatment masque can be either used as a moisturizer or a deep treatment conditioner. It is horrible as a deep treatment condition(gives no slip) and works better as a moisturizer. Leaves my hair feeling like butter afterwards! You might want to try it that way befor u completely omit it!
Hi,
Iam late on commenting, but I ADORE the Shea Butter Raw Shea Butter line. I live by it for my 4a/b hair type. I know everyone's hair is different and I am truly surprised. I also love the j=hair milk and smoothie. I love Shea Moisture products!!
