SpotLight: Azariah

Her name is Azariah. I nicknamed her Azzy. She is 1 years old.(soon to be 2). 

 In 1 of he photos she is with her Big brother Ezekiel. They both have Biblical names.

I recently decided to start my daughters hair journey because a close friend of mine went natural (& her hair is so long) & recommended to me to do the same to keep her hair naturally healthy. 

 I started looking on websites for natural hair care & started trying banding & bantu knots for twist outs. I am trying a couple of regimens for her hair but nothing to harsh because she is still small. It is a struggle to maintain Azariah's hair, but as time progresses it will become easier....I pray.

Krystal you are doing a great job! Azariah is such a cutie, and so is her brother. It took us awhile to figure out a good routine for N. But through trial and error you will nail it. Keep up the good job and it will become more easier with time. Thanks for being featured.

SpotLight: Sunshyne & Ayanna

1.) Your name and little one's name/nickname?

My name is Sunshyne and my daughter is Ayanna.

2.) What's your child's haircare routine?

 I use a method I call K.I.S.S. for her hair (Keep It Super Simple). I wash her hair weekly (styled or not) and alternate deep conditioning and hot oil treatments every other week. I keep her hair in protective styles during the week. She won't keep a bonnet or scarf on so she sleeps on a satin pillow case. I do apply a little oil to her ends prior to bed each night and moisturize daily. We clip ends about every 3 to 4 months. That's basically it for her routine.

3.) What products are you currently using?

After experimenting with so many different products, I created my own line. EPIC beYOUty. I use Sweet Body Icing moisturizer, Moisture Blend Oils, Arys Natural Gel, and Coco Moisture conditioner. Outside of my own line I use Herbal Essence Hello Hydration and Suave Naturals shampoo and conditioner from time to time.

4.) Do you use heat/chemicals on the child's hair?

No! No chemicals, no heat.

5.) How does your child feel about their hair?

She loves her hair! It's amazing to watch her play in her hair or in her baby dolls hair and how she references curls and afros. When I was little I had a negative image of "unruly" hair, everything was about trying to get your hair straighter. I make sure to pay attention to her pretty hair and so many people have gone natural that it's normal for her and she's excited by it. It's great!

6.) What was the worst hair tip you have received?

The worst hair tip I ever received was not to clip her ends. When she was first born I was just transitioning to natural and it took me a while to get used to having natural hair. As her hair grew I had to figure it all out and one of the tips I got was not to clip her ends, just continue to moisturize them. ^_^ (blank stare) Once damaged those ends don't repair themselves and they just continue to split. Bad tip.

7.) Do you cut/trim the hair? if so how often? 

Yes. I clip her ends just a little every 3 or 4 months for about a year now. Sometimes she hasn't needed it so I haven't cut it, but when I notice those little splits then sure, I'll clip them off. The goal is to keep her hair healthy.

8.) What is some hair advice you would like to share? 

Moisturize, protect and K.I.S.S. Those are my basic rules. Moisturize and protect for obvious reasons, but K.I.S.S. covers everything. I don't like to mix a lot of products, especially if they're chemically based, and I don't manipulate her hair constantly. That's really it.

1.) Your name and little one's name/nickname?

My name is Shakirah, and my daughter's name is Starr. 

2.) What's your child's haircare routine?

We made a decision 8 mos ago to become natural! This decision was based on a more healthy lifestyle for my daughter's hair. We will never go back to perms. Lately, we have been doing protective styles using natural products. We have a routine of washing/deep condition. Then we braid it back up!

3.) What products are you currently using?

 I keep it moisturized with olive oil, coconut oil, and we use eco styler gel for her edges. We use Kinky Curly products, but lately I have my eye on Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo used For: Repairing, Strengthening, Hair Re-growth. Just because it can be used on all hair types, and have that retention that she need. 

4.) Do you use (or will or will not use) heat/chemicals on the child's hair?

We do not use any type of heat, and I band her hair. 

5.) Do you use heat/chemicals on your hair?

As of now, I am not using any perms in my hair either. 

6.) What was the worst hair tip you have received?

The worst advice I ever received about my daughter's hair was that, I was going to have to cut it all off for her to be natural, I did not do that! Her hair is growing well. I just keep a good watch on her ends. I keep them sealed with coconut oil. 

7.) Do you cut/trim the hair? if so how often? 

I do trim, but not very often, because the coconut oil has done it's job. 

8.) What is some hair advice you would like to share? 

 The best advice I can give anyone is, if you or your daughter edges ever come out, Castor oil grows it back fast. I forgot to include, we keep her hair oiled with Olive oil, a great help. Kandyland Kurls/BBB, has become our family.

SpotLight: LN & LP

Hello everyone, I am a proud mother of 2 little girls LN who is 4 and LP who is 2. 

  

LN is my little athlete but is still very prissy that's my little gymnast. 

LP who is my baby girl, is absolutely a mommies girl. She is only 2 so I haven't quite figured out what her interests are, I can say it's whatever her sis is into. 

I got into natural hair care when my oldest daughter lost all her hair, and I didn't understand why. Me being a AA women my knowledge on PROPER hair care was next to zero. 

So I did my research and started blogging and started facebooking. I can say I have learned so much on how to care for their hair, and we are well on our way to long flowing locks.

 I would like to give a special thank you to all the mom bloggers for sharing their healthy hair care tips with us, from our curls to yours THANK YOU, and remember HEALTHY IS GOOD HAIR.

You two darlings are simply beautiful! You are doing a good job on their hair. I'm happy they are on their way to healthy hair.

Naomi's Hair care routine/Regimen:

-I wash her hair 2 or 3 times every week.

-Her hair is really soft, so we can’t pull it to tight which limits the kind of styles we can do, also she has very full hair.

We cover those flaws by leaving her hair in afros over braiding it or putting it in ponytails.

- After washing her hair we style it with Mixed Chicks.

Isn't she a little doll baby! and her hair, ahh it's marvelous!

SpotLight: Erica & Cynshei

Here are 7 pictures of my little sister Erica, age 5 when I did these styles. I just wanted to get my work out there for some feedback. My name is Cynshei (sin-shay) I'm currently 18 yrs old. I was 17 when these styles were done. I love to do hair. I do a lot of hair, teenagers, and adults, but I prefer to do children's hair. Doing hair is my hobby. I also do my own hair.

1.The first hairstyle with the multicolored barrettes is a double twist slanted Mohawk.

2.The second with the big knockers and barrettes is 3 braided ponytails with a bang.

3.The third with the yellow & white beads & barrettes is a crown filled w| barrettes & 2 rows of cornrows in the back.

4.This is the back of hairstyle #3

5.The fifth hairstyle is a sock bun Mohawk with 2 sock buns in the back and a big slanted sock bun in the front.

6.The last hairstyle is the double twist again. The front is going up into a bun with lots of knockers and barrettes. The back is diamond shaped double twist w| barrettes at the end.

7.The sixth hairstyle is cornrows in the front w/singles / box braids in the back. There was about 25 beads on each braid! Talk about time consuming!

Cynshei, you are doing a wonderful job! I can totally see you being a professional! Erica is toooo cute and her hair is Super-Fly, thanks to her big sister! Keep up the great job!
