Hair Grease

I don't know if you have ever been recommended to use grease on your kids hair. I have been raised to always grease my scalp to prevent my hair from being dry. After doing research for a few months, I have found that hair grease is not good for thick curly hair. Most hair grease contains petroleum and mineral oil that coats the hair, which blocks your pores. The moisture already in your hair will stay awhile, but when you apply other moisturizers it cant get in. So we have ditched our hair grease, and started using Natural Oils like Olive and Coconut Oil. Honestly, after using natural oils I don't miss it the classic hair grease. I like being able to run my fingers through hair, without tons of icky sticky grease all on my hands. It feels so much better especially since I know it's much healthier. If you are unsure if your hair grease is unhealthy or not, check the first few ingredients the one's listed first contains the higher amount of that ingredient. If it says PETROLEUM or MINERAL OIL stay clear from it.

thank you SO much for posting this, so many people still dont know this.. i stopped using grease on my baby over a year ago now when i did research and i have been since trying to tell people how bad it is for the hair but a lot of people are stuck in their old ways and think the scalp "needs" it when actually all it does is STOP hair growth and clogs up your hair pours which in the end makes it drier.. i now use oils too :) Moroccan or coconut are my fave for babygirl and hubby.

Hi Kandy!
Thanks for posting this :) I'll be sure to share it with my mother-in-law. lol. she swears by hair grease, but i hated snuggling with my little one and then having grease all over my face, so i never used it and she'd always get on me about it. but now i have a legit reason! haha. hey i have a question...i gave my daughter a bath with baby oil in the water and after her bath her hair looks amazing! that little bit of baby oil mixed with water was great. but i dont know if there's draw back to baby oil like there is to hair grease. what do you think? annnddd, what section is coconut oil in?!?! LOL. i know, can you tell i don't cook or have curly hair? ;)

@Taylor- I was one of those people who just couldn't give up on my Softee Indian Hemp, It's so hard to break a bad habit. I keep my indian hemp grease in my drawer with all of my products, because Im too chicken to throw it away lol but it is collecting dust, and is now a decoration lol! I just wish I knew this information years ago :(

@kelsey- I know you will enjoy rubbing it all in your mom in law face LOL! Dont even get me started, on how much I hated the grease on my face. Especially when I sweat..yuck! Or on the pillows at night! No wonder, I had bad acne as a teen lol. Im glad you are interested in trying coconut oil, I LOVE it! You can find it in the baking/cooking aisle near flour, sugar,& veggie oil. Also you can find it at Walmart, it is in solid form. NOOOOOOO!!! Baby Oil's main ingredient is Mineral Oil. Which will clog her pores. I can't deny it will leave her hair looking great, but it is soooo not healthy and if you want her hair to grow healthy & strong then dump baby oil :)

Thanks for this ... great info!! I haven't used grease on my baby girl in years, pretty much never!! My hubby's family thinks I'm crazy, OR they just think its the half white in me!! Either way, they just don't get it!
Since I don't use it in her hair, I don't have any for mine!! So its a plus for both of us!
