1st Day Of School Style

N is now a First Grader!! I can't believe how fast my baby is growing up! She has already made a 100 on her first test, and is in the safety patrol. She is having a blast at school! I'm still adjusting to her school schedule. Well, I skipped ahead and I haven't shared her hairstyle for the first day of school. N wanted cornbraids and I wanted a braidout, so we met in the middle and combined the two. Here it is...

Please ignore all of the shine on her hair, I promise it was not that greasy, it's the flash lol.

I did not have a cornbraid design in mind, I just freestyled.

Her braidout got a little wet on her ends, from the shower.

SpotLight: Jovanny aka Jojo

This is my little man Jovanny we call him Jojo or Casper (since hes so light lol). He just turned 3 years old & still doesn't like for me to do his hair, but once its done he always loves it! Since I'm a hair stylist, I'm always doing his hair every week to keep him looking cute! His favorite hair style is box braids because he loves to shake his hair. I love braiding & he's a great advertisement for my work, but now that I just had a baby girl, I look forward to trying out more femine type of designs!

Ohhh Jojo is a cutie!! Check out how fly he is!! Rocking his gold chain lol. Momma, you are rocking his hair designs!! I can't wait to see what you do with your daughter's hair! Thanks so much for feature little Jojo!!

Avlon Keracare Naturals Textures- Product Review

Remember the free sample post on KeraCare naturals, if not click here. I received my order a few months ago, and they sent quite a few samples packets for me to try. It has taken me awhile to review them all, plus review other lines. But here is the 411 on KeraCare while using it on N.

Cleansing Cream

Sulfate Free Moisturizing Curl Wash
Gently cleanses hair and scalp while neem leave extract helps eliminate scalp bacteria.
Eliminate styling product build up.
Eases combing.
Soothes and clarifies dry or itchy scalp conditions.

Ingredients: Aqueous (Water, Aqua Purificato, Purified) Extracts: Azadirachta Indica (Neem)1, Phyllanthus Emblica (Amla)1, Acacia Concinna (Shikakai)1, Cetrimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol2, Cetyl Alcohol2, C12-15 Alkyl Lactate, Polyquaternium-37, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, PPG-1 Trideceth-6, Glycerin1, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil1, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil1, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil1, Poyquaternium-10, Piroctone Olamine, Potassium Sorbate, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance/Parfum, Benzyl Benzoate.

Review: I followed the directions on the back of the packet, for instructions on how to use it. I applied it to N's wet hair and worked it in. Immediately, her hair felt squeaky clean. It stripped her hair of everything, just like they claim. But I personally enjoy a more moisturizing shampoo, I don't like using these kinds of shampoos unless I'm clarifying her hair. I would definitely recommend this as a clarifying shampoo. It felt just as stripped, as sulfate shampoo, but minus the sulfate. When it came to detangling, it didn't help whatsoever! N's hair felt brittle and I made sure to add plenty of conditioner. Overall, I most likely won't purchase the full size.

Butter Cream

A Moisture locking souffl'e that employs Lanolin plus Argan, Abyssinian, and Castor natural oils,
to achieve proper natural oil and moisture (lipophilic) balance.
Amla & Shikakai Botanicals enhance the shine of the hair.

Ingredients: Aqueous (Water, Aqua Purificato, Purified) Extracts: Phyllanthus Emblica (Amla)1 and Acacia Concinna (Shikakai)1, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)1, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil1, Theobromo Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter1, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil1, Emulsifying Wax NF, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil1, Glycerin1, Lanolin1, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil1 , Beeswax1, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil1, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil1, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil1, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein2, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil1, Carbomer, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Linoleate, Triethanolamine, Potassium Sorbate, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance/Parfum, Citronellol, Benzyl Benzoate, d-Limonene, Lilial, Linalool, Methyl Ionone Gamma.

Review: This product mixed with Bee Mine Curly Butter is HOTTT!! I have no idea why I decided to mix the too, but I'm glad I did. I normally add Bee Mine Curly Butter to N's hair while braiding. But lately with her sweating in this summer heat, her hair starts frizzing just a few hours later. I decide to add this butter cream and Bee Mine Curly Butter to her braids, and it is amazing!! Typically her braids only last days and then it is a frizz city! But, by combining the two products her style lasted .....2 weeks (woo-hoo) and it still didn't have alot of frizz. I only removed the style, so that I can do her back to school hairstyle (coming soon.) I am very pleased with this product and I will definitely order more. It seems like lately I'm finally finding what works well for N's hair! The saying is very true " Trial and Error" keep trying different blends and products until you find the right one for you!

Teen Could Die From Brushing Her Hair

Yes, the title is correct. 13 year old Megan Steward suffers from a rare medical condition, and she was told by doctors that brushing her hair can result in death for her. I heard about this story from my friend Shay, and I wanted to share this with you, to read the full article click on the link below.

Vanilla Delight Curl Detangling Milk

Our NEW Curl Detangling Milk is a lighter (milky consistency) leave-in conditioner recipe created for our curlies with fine to medium textured curls & waves. It also works just as well on thicker curls:)
This light moisturizer and leave-in will help to maintain & condition your curls daily:)

Ingredients: Distilled Water, Organic Aloe Vera Juice, Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Soybean Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, BTMS (a mild conditioning emulsifier), Guar Silk, a paraben-free preservative, and fragrance.

Consistency: Liquid

Review: THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE PRODUCT! I wrote this in all capitals, so that you can see feel how serious I am lol. I applied this onto N's wet hair, and started finger detangling her hair. Instantly, I felt how easily her curls separated from one another, as if the knots slipped away! I paused for a moment because this seemed tooo good to be true! I thought to myself that there has to be something wrong! Then I went through her hair with the wide tooth comb, and let me tell you, there was NO HAIR on the comb! I was so shocked, I used this again, and again, and it did not disappoint me. N's hair LOVES IT! and N likes the vanilla scent. I'm on cloud 9 to find something this good! Darcy, where have you been??? LOL

Shea Butter Curl Moisturizing Cream

Our NEW Shea Butter Curl Moisturizing Cream is for all of our lovely customers who wanted a creamier moisturizer than the Daily Leave In Conditioner:)
It can be used as a leave-in moisturizer and for styling as well. This one is scented with our Sweet Cream fragrance.
The Curl Moisturizing Cream contains moisturizing shea butter, pumpkin seed oil, and silk protein to help keep your coils & curls soft, healthy, moisturized and frizz-free.

Ingredients:  Distilled Water, Unrefined Shea Butter, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Conditioning Emulsifier, Cetyl Esters, Silk Protein, Copaiba Balsam, Gotu Kola Extract, Licorice Root Extract, Botanical Extracts, Vitamin E, Paraben Free Preservative, Fragrance

Consistency: Creamy

Review: This product has helped N's hair feel moisturized and soft through out the day. Her hair didn't feel overly greasy, and it wasn't extra light, it's right in the middle lol. I didn't like the scent, it has a strong stench to it. But overall N's hair felt soft, and moisturized, and that is what I wanted :)

Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Conditioning Oil

A gentle infusion of Organic Hibiscus flowers in Organic Virgin Coconut Oil and other natural hair conditioning oils.
It has a lovely floral coconut aroma with bits of Organic Hibiscus Flowers in every bottle.
Our Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Hair Conditioning Oil is a very light, luscious blend of nourishing oils that will provide healthy conditioning, encourage hair growth, and add sheen & softness to your hair. It is also perfect for oil rinsing your natural curls to help soften & detangle hair.

Ingredients: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, and Japanese Camellia Japonica Oil infused with Organic Hibiscus Flowers.

Consistency: Oil/liquid

Review: This is my second favorite new product!! I love to spray it in her hair, while it is in braids! It helps to add a nice shine to to her braids and it lasts all day. This is the perfect sealant to add on top of a moisturizer, or for hot oil treatments. Some hair types may find it a little heavy, so a few squirts is good enough. I didn't notice a scent, it's pure oil and that is fine to me. I will add this into N's hair care regimen, and I will order more, very soon.

Herbal Leave In Spritz

Give your coils and waves an instant boost of moisture with our NEW all natural Herbal Tea Leave-In Conditioning Spritz!!!
Use this throughout the week to revive & refresh your curls.
This is an EXCELLENT moisturizer, conditioner and refresher for locs, twists, braids, curls and waves!
It will also detangle your curls with great ease:)
We start by infusing a lot of organic herbs known to promote healthy hair growth along with more natural ingredients to provide much needed moisture, softness, conditioning, and detangling properties.

Ingredients: Botanical infusion of Distilled Water, Organic Nettle, Organic Peppermint leaves, Organic Burdock Root, Organic Horsetail, Organic Marshmallow Root, Organic Coltsfoot, Organic Sage, Organic Hibiscus Flowers, Organic Kelp, Organic Sea Moss, Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Aloe Juice, Dead Sea Salt, Tangerine, Peppermint, & Tea Tree Essential Oils, and a paraben free preservative.

Consistency: Liquid

Review: I love the peppermint scent! Yummy! This spray is very light, and is a good refresher for N's hair. I used this at night, before putting on her sleeping cap. I also like how it didn't leave my fingers feeling sticky, like other sprays do. When I sprayed this in N's hair after giving her cornbraids, she liked the cool/cold mist on her hair. The spray was quickly absorbed into her hair. Overall this is a good refresher.

-If your wondering if I added Darcy Botanicals to our regimen, you are correct!!! Visit http://www.darcysbotanicals.com/ to view their wide range of hair goodies, you won't be disappointed.

SpotLight: Malikhi

This is Malikhi he is 5 years old, and my little man is absolutley in love with his hair. He loves getting it braided, or just wearing it out.  His hobbies are building things with leggos, and playing outside on his bike. I feel sorry for anyone that touches his hair because he freaks. He also refuses to swim if he just recently got braided up, because he doesn't want to mess his hair up.

Whew! That's alot of hair to do! lol
I really love your styles especially the twists! I have to borrow that one lol. To see more of Little Malikhi visit him at his blog "Boys and Girls Natural Curls" She features styles on her son's and daughter. I'm glad there are more blogs being created for all the little boys. Thanks so much Malikhi & Mom for participating on KandyLand.

I Made A Bow Headband

Okay, the title is not entirely true, I didn't make a bow headband. I just used some things lying around to create one. So to boost my confidence I want to claim that I made (put) one together :) It was a small task that anyone, yes anyone, can do. I found this hair bow in my daughter's room. I have no clue where it came from (maybe some doll?) But I decided to use my hot glue gun, and glue a little rhinestone in the center. Next, once the glue cooled off, I used one of N's all white headbands and I glued the bow to the headband.

This was not rocket science, but after I glued it, I was so PROUD! Real corny but I'm not crafty at all. But now, I'm even thinking about making a flower bow! ..hmmm.. not a bad thought?
