N's Hair Growth

I recently shared this picture with our facebook family. Look at N's hair growth from last year 12-13-10 (the top 2 pictures.) Now look at her growth as of 12-12-11 (photos at the bottom.) Before her hair was above her elbow, now it's a little past (with braids.)

A few people have already asked me, what did I do? or what products are we using? The answer to these questions are in the tabs above. It can be found in N's hair care routine, and hair care tips. But the main key for us is patience, protective styles, moisture, and no dry detangling (unless her hair is stretched). These steps have helped us tremendously!  Since the New Year is right around the corner, we set some hair goals for the upcoming year.

1.) Moisturize daily. (We've been pretty good on this one.)

2.) Always sleep with her sleeping cap. (We have our forgetful moments.)

3.) Reach hip length hair. (Hard one, but we will keep our fingers-crossed.)

What is your 2012 hair care goal?

Holiday Hairstyles

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

I hope everyone is finished wrapping gifts! (FYI: I haven't even started lol) I keep forgetting to purchase tape. Anywho, I wanted to share our Holiday Hairstyle. N LOVES it!!! I do too!! Mostly because it only took 20 minutes to complete! Plus our neighbor came over just to take a picture of N's hair to share with her family. <--how cool is that! Can you tell what design is in her hair??

Do you see the tree!!

This style is pretty simple.

1.) I parted the shape of a tree in the middle of her hair.

2.) I slid beads in the center of the tree design. Then I placed all of the hair into a bow.

3.) I created small cornbraids around the tree.

4.) Next, I added two (two- strand twists) ponytails in the front of her hair. I placed a few beads on the ends for decoration.

The yellow bead is the star lol

Products Used:
Darcy's Botanical Shea Butter Moisturizer
Shea Butter Mix
Rubberbands
Beads
Eco Styler Gel
Note: Her hair was freshly washed the previous day. We used Blended Beauty Herbal Reconditioner, Bee Mine Shampoo, and we did a hot oil treatment, prior to wash.

MTV Casting Call

I wanted to share this information for all of the Women/Teens who are readers of KandyLand!

Are you ready for the "Big Chop?"

Have you ever considered how much fun it could be for you or someone you know to appear on a reality show about going natural? MTV’s True Life is looking for such a person, so lower your reality TV guard just a bit and think about it!

Is your hair your obsession? How are you struggling with your hair? Do you feel natural hair would let you embrace your true self, and you want to go for the “big chop?” Why now? What has held you back up to this moment?

We would like to follow someone who is ready to do the “big chop” and follow them on their journey as they transition into their natural hair.

If you appear to be between the ages of 15 -28 and would like us to document your transition to natural hair, email us at casting@Lintonmedia.com and tell us about your story. Please include your name, location, phone number and recent photos of yourself.

Determining Hair Types

3c, 4a, 4b, 2c, 3b.....WHAT DO THESE LETTERS MEAN!!!  (hahaha) Well, I'll tell you, the letters help determine your curl/hair type. Take a look below for images to help you. Also don't be alarmed if you have more than one, N has 3! Knowing your curl type may help you figure out products that cater to your hair.

Here is a link to help if you are still unsure. http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types

So what curl type are you? and your little one?
